The David Drane memorial cup Returns for Heroes Never Die IV
Gippsland Pro Wrestling returns to the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium on July 30th for our annual Heroes Never Die Event. Wrestlers from across Gippsland, Melbourne and Tasmania will battle for the David Drane Memorial Cup in a 20 competitor Royal Rumble.
While David was never an in-ring competitor, he was one of the biggest supporters of the local pro wrestling scene and was instrumental in the resurgence of Gippsland Pro Wrestling in 2015 when it was taken over by current management team.
“Winning the Cup was one of the most emotional nights in my wrestling career. David did so much for the local scene, not just here in Gippsland but he would travel down to Melbourne and stand behind the merch desk helping wrestlers sell their stuff and would ask for nothing in return. At training we have his photo hanging up so it feels like he is watching over us” -Andy Rhodes 2018 David Drane Memorial Cup winner.
On July 30th there will be plenty of opportunity to see local wrestlers in action. After failing to get the GPW Championship at our last event, D DAY, Newborough local Push-Up has a chance for some redemption when he takes on reality TV star MAFS Anthony Cincotta or as he is known to the GPW faithful Tommy Hellfire.
“My heart still broken over the loss to Mitch Waterman for the GPW Championship but it has proven that I’m the real deal and that I am ready for anyone. Time to go against one of the best yet again and see if Tommy Hellfire can talk smack about Gippsland when my boot is in his mouth” Push Up said.
Owen Steadman from Traralgon is only in his third match but is already showing skill and talent as a competitor. Steadman will be looking to even the odds in his rematch against 10-year veteran Jake Lindo. “My debut match against Jake Lindo validated my love for this sport. That loss ignited a new fire in me. I will spare no effort to earn his respect.”
This is the fourth time Gippsland Pro Wrestling has held this type of match and it is a fan favourite on the wrestling calendar and we look forward to wowing the crowd with our brand of high-flying, heavy hitting, over the top rope entertainment. –ends-
